Lake Allatoona Kayaking

What to bring kayaking

The short list for a day on Lake Allatoona: what the law requires, what to ask a rental shop, and what you'll wish you'd packed.

Required by Georgia law

  • A USCG-approved life jacket for each person. Kids under 13 must wear theirs.
  • After dark: a white light ready at hand (a flashlight works on boats under 16 feet).

Questions

Do I need my own life jacket to rent a kayak?

Ask when you book. Georgia law requires a life jacket for every person on board, and kids under 13 must wear one.

What should I wear kayaking?

Quick-dry clothes you don't mind getting wet, and shoes that can get muddy. Ramps and shorelines get muddy when the lake is low.
